During a little downtime in January I decided to expermiment with the Last.fm API. Last.fm have an amazing amount of data which they allow developers to access in order to build their own applications. So using the excellent php interface developed by Matt Oakes i set out to build a little web application to help spread new music.

Over two days I pulled the site together, coding and designing the whole thing in a matter of hours.

If you type in a Last.fm username (could be yours or someone else’s) the site then finds your five nearest ‘neighbours’ (those with the most similar music taste) and then gives you a list of the five tracks they been listening to recently.

Hopefully from there you’ll find some interesting new music.
